Performing Arts: Dance, Drama & Music
Dance and DramaIn Key Stage 3 Performing Arts consists of units of dance, drama or integrated performing arts projects. When studied as a GCSE or A Level option, the two art forms are combined. We therefore emphasize the links between dance and drama and teachers work closely together.
Drama lessons are mainly of a practical nature but less physically active than dance.
Music
Students develop their musicianship through the skills of listening and appraising, performing, and composing. They study music from a range of genres, traditions, and periods in history.
At KS3 these include: Blues, Reggae, African music, Chinese music, Music for Film, and Variations based on dance music.
At Key Stage 4, students who opt for Music follow the Edexcel GCSE syllabus.
Peripatetic instrumental music lessons are available on a range of instruments, on application to Brighton & Hove Music Service. Forms can be obtained from the music department. All Year 7s attend an introductory session in September.
The College Library offers a Music Ticket for GSCE Music students. This enables them to borrow from the snmall but select Music collection.
Homework
Formal homework is not set in Key Stage 3, although students are encouraged to extend their musical knowledge through research. When studied at GCSE level, students receive one homework per week. This homework may be of a practical nature, e.g. rehearsing for a performance or more theoretical, e.g. research for coursework.
