Geography
Key Stage 3All Key Stage 3 students study Geography in their mixed ability Tutor
Groups. They cover a variety of physical, regional and human geography topics. Fieldwork studies occur throughout the Key Stage to
enable students to apply the skills and knowledge they have learned in the classroom.
Year 7 topics include: the United Kingdom, Local studies, Ordnance Survey mapwork, rivers, earthquakes and volcanoes. They are expected to build their own volcano!
Year 8 topics include: Italy, weather, climate, problems facing people living in the developing world, Environmental concerns such as population and resource issues.
Year 9 topics include: Japan, Brazil, rainforests, deserts, Mediterranean and polar environments.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, Geography is an optional subject.
Students study a range of topics, which build on the knowledge and skills gained at Key stage 3. All students have to complete a project that is worth 25% of their final GCSE grade.
In recent years our students have tackled a range of issues such as the proposed siting of a wind farm at Shoreham Harbour, the West Pier and local traffic management.
Key Stage 5A Level Geography
The course is 50% physical and 50% human Geography, varying in content from meteorology and climatology to a study of population and industry. In addition to several one day fieldtrips, all students will participate in a local Fieldwork investigation, and, normally, a residential trip to Snowdonia.
